The new colourised version of the second Doctor Who serial, The Daleks, will be available on Blu-ray and DVD, and in Steelbook in February.
The 75 minute re-edited version, with a score by Mark Ayres, will premiere on Thursday November 23, Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary, on BBC Four. It will then be available to own next year.
Editor Ben Cook exclusively told Sci-Fi Bulletin, “This Daleks colourisation project has been a total thrill, from start to finish. That original Dalek serial – which I first watched on VHS, aged 11, in the ’90s and fell in love with – is some of the most exhilarating, most influential TV ever made… so we’ve come along and gone, ‘Let’s make it even better.’ Oh, the arrogance! But I love our new, 2023 version of “The Daleks” to death – it’s now a 75-minute blockbuster, gorgeously colourised by Rich Tipple, Kieran Highman, Timothy K Brown, and Scott Burditt, and with new sound and music by Mark Ayres. And it’s airing on BBC TV, on the 60th Anniversary itself. Then getting a DVD, Blu-ray and steelbook release in February! If he could have believed such a thing, this would have made 11-year-old, mid-’90s Ben very, very happy. He’d have also gone, what the hell’s a Blu-ray??”
According to Amazon, “this release also includes the original seven episodes on DVD in black & white, as they were first broadcast plus a 15 minute exclusive featurette and all special features from the previous release.”
