The Discovery crew journey to a mysterious planet in hopes of finding a cure for Georgiou’s illness.

Coming at just the right point in the season, Discovery treats us to an epic two-parter that reminds us just how much we love Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou.

Dr Culber calls up Kovich (David Cronenberg) to discuss Georgiou’s deteriorating condition, and what has been a mystery for weeks is solved in seconds. Quite simply, temporal travel from an alternate universe destroys your body – the only other recorded victim having pleaded for euthanasia. Luckily, the Discovery ship computer has been crunching the data from multiple databases and identified a deserted planet that holds a 5% chance of a cure.

Georgiou is angry, itching for a fight, but Michael sees this as a credible opportunity for survival – though will she be able to make a hard call if a cure is not forthcoming? A physical door on the icy planet (excellent location shooting) takes Georgiou through time and space into the Mirror universe on the day that Lorca plans to overthrow her.

All the cast have such fun playing their evil counterparts – check out Mary Wiseman’s sassy Tilly and a treacherous Stamets – with Georgiou replaying a moment in history, having the opportunity to set things on a different course. Will this save her life, and can she change Evil Michael? It’s great fun discovering the answers.

Verdict: She’s behind you! As we enter pantomime season, Discovery takes a similar route, charting big villains with murderous intentions. Great fun. 9/10
