A couple leaves the city for a romantic weekend in the woods, only to find themselves the target of a group of hostile locals, and a couple’s quarrel takes a dark and violent turn revealing how far one of them will go to protect the one they love.

Two very different stories this week that feel closer to this horror anthology’s MO of being both diverse and offering social commentary. That’s not to say that they aren’t both fun to watch, but they they’re less dull than the first four episodes, and less predictable in their outcomes.

In Teeth, two young women have a romantic getaway before taking the step to move in together. There are things that they still don’t know about one another, and this is the safe environment in which to open up. But within 90 seconds they’ve hit an animal in the road and angered the locals – can any secret be worse than the predicament they find themselves in? You’d be surprised.

The Killer Inside features a couple in very different circumstances, and the fun is in working out just what is going on. It’s like an opening scene from a Saw film where the victims soon realise the predicament they’re in and what they need to do to stay alive. As either party tries to gain control of the situation, more of the truth comes out – who will you root for?

Verdict: The strongest brace of episodes this season, both with something to say and capable of subverting your expectations. 7/10
