Mariner faces her past.

The two-part season finale concludes with an exciting half hour of classic Star Trek drama and technology, and I won’t say much more than that – at the request of the producers.

It stands to reason that a series-long arc should not be explained away in a review like this, but I think it’s safe to mention that Robert Duncan McNeill returns as Nick Locarno, as revealed at the end of the previous episode. How does the shamed former Starfleet cadet know Mariner, and how is he involved in the kidnapping of the alien crews? All becomes clear.

There’s a sub-plot involving Orions that has a greater relevance than first appears, and as with the previous episode, the show works best when it has a definite focus and not just revolving around shouty junior members of the crew.

Verdict: A good conclusion to a solid year which benefits from some focus and high-level Star Trek values. 8/10
