Investigating the disappearance of one of Tegan’s old friends, the TARDIS crew find themselves in an exact copy of Tudor London – on an alien planet…

Maintaining the standard of The Elite, Hexagora continues the early season 20 adventures for the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa in the period between Arc of Infinity and Snakedance. Overlooking for the moment the Doctor’s incredible control over the TARDIS – you’d think Tegan would make some sort of snarky remark about the precision he shows in first getting her to contemporary Brisbane and then following her friend’s trail – this fits neatly into the period, with a rare usage of Nyssa’s regal background as a key plot point, and the Doctor not necessarily thinking things through.

Toby Hadoke plays his Australian part to the hilt (the line about the barbie and the beers though was probably a bit too much), and Jacqueline Pearce is far more restrained than usual – and seemingly as a reward, she gets a very different part to play in the final scenes of the story (that’s the only reason I can think of for them, as they really aren’t necessary).

When The Big Finish Companion gets around to covering these Lost Stories, it would be intriguing to see exactly what there was initially for the adaptors to work from – it’s hard to tell how much is Peter Ling and Hazel Adair, and how much Paul Finch, but it’s a good combination. 7/10
