With the tree monsters ravaging the city, Ivy, Harley and the crew do what they can, but there’s a bigger motive at play than any of them suspect.

Continuing its arc from the previous couple of episodes, Harley and Ivy have made up but they have the pressing issue of Scarecrow’s tree monsters going around destroying the city, and no apparent way of stopping them, to contend with. If that weren’t bad enough, turns out it isn’t just Scarecrow they have to contend with, as the Justice League turn up as well as an old familiar frenemy.

What’s quite nice is that in among all the city-destroying stuff and big action scenes, we get a lot of character work built up, especially for Ivy, who is forced to reveal her more vulnerable side to the others when they find themselves in need of some further assistance.

Of course, thanks to a variety of factors, Harley assumes that this whole thing is the work of the Legion of Doom, which she is thoroughly determined to quit now that she’s rediscovered what’s really important to her. But is it really down to Lex and friends that all this is happening?

As per the last episode, the writers are having a lot of fun here as they pull off some wacky stuff and really get to explore some of the silliness inherent in the basic premise of the various characters. It also packs a surprising amount of emotional heft at the same time when it wants to, and that’s not an easy balance to pull off.

Verdict: This is the show at its absolute best, mixing slapstick, devil may care dumbness with a genuine emotional core. 9/10
