Kara and Lena go to Kaznia and discover the truth about Lex and his connection to Red Daughter. Brainy and Lockwood butt heads. Lockwood makes a terrible choice and Kara walks straight into a trap.

The Kaznia stuff this week is so much fun, especially in the differing approaches the two women take. Kara’s traditional, comedic not-quite-using her powers-while-using-her-powers schtick gets a darker turn here as she finds conclusive proof that Lex knows who she is. That, and the mildly apocalyptic Kaznian imagery really make this plot stand out and the sense of escalation is tangible.

Elsewhere the ridiculously tidy plotting of the season to date continues to impress. Lockwood’s collision with the Harun-El and, in turn the fight for the DEO’s soul is especially well done and it’s nice to see the show give every character at every tier stuff to do. Lockwood is still utterly contemptible but with writing this good and Sam Witwer in the role you genuinely can’t take your eyes off him. He’s dangerous in a way few villains in the CWverse are and the closing fight, however brief, absolutely crackles with tension.

Best of all though is the Kelly/Alex plot which not only opens a crack in Alex’s armour and sets the stage for her memories to return but gives two of the best cast members a chance to shine. They’re effortlessly sweet together and that, tied to the way Chyler Leigh’s Alex is so desperate to help anybody and everybody makes the scenes equal parts funny and desperately sad. Plus they’re the perfect counterpoint to the Kaznia plot.

Verdict: Rounded out by an unsurprising but fun twist involving President Baker this is another fun episode. Bring on the endgame. 9/10
