A UNIT team enter another dimension – and find they’re rather more present than they might have expected…

Guy Adams continues this Cyber-Reality saga with a good blend of dramatic strands, as Osgood and co.’s minds are transported to a parallel world while their bodies remain at UNIT HQ, watched over by Kate – who’s got problems of her own. Telepresence is a real word, meaning the sensation of being elsewhere, created by virtual reality technology, and that feeling is brought to life well here, with the audio connection between the two groups emphasising the difference while the dialogue reminds us that physically there’s very little gap between them. Ingrid Oliver, in particular, seems to be having fun with the possibilities inherent in this story – the team take a bit of time to work out what they can and can’t do in the different realm, but Osgood rightly takes the lead.

Adams ramps up the tension in both realities, as we realise that things are not as separate as might be hoped – and there’s lots of clever foreshadowing, referencing back to previous Doctor Who adventures. The final scene presents a cliffhanger that will have you reaching straight for the next disc…

Verdict: A well-realised threat imperils the UNIT team. 9/10
