The Cerritos crew unexpectedly spends a day on Deep Space 9.

‘Lower Decks has until now focused on the opportunities afforded it through being set in post-Nemesis 2380s. This of course means that it’s also set in the time period of Deep Space Nine (although an era we haven’t seen on screen), and it’s the former Terok Nor that the crew visits this week.

There’s a lovely pre-credits scene, complete with Dennis McCarthy’s majestic theme playing out where the crew of the Cerritos (clearly unimpressed with the station) have no idea how to approach it. ‘Circle around and pretend we’re in awe of the pylons,’ suggests Ransom. Yeah, we get what you’re saying.

Aboard the station it’s great to see the command station and the Promenade recreated in animation, and of course the big question is which guest stars we’ll get. We’re well served with guest spots from Colonel Kira and Quark (Nana Visitor and Armin Shimerman respectively reprising their roles) and there’s barfly Morn, still silently supping.

The various plots shift between Mariner trying to fit in with girlfriend Jennifer’s clique, Tendi embracing her Orion pirate heritage and Quark getting up to his old tricks again. None of this is that consequential, but it really feels like we’re visiting some old friends, and this is very welcome.

Verdict: If you’re a DS9 fan you’ll have a great time walking the Promenade again with some well-chosen favourites. 8/10
