With the Roci crew once more together, things seem to start settling on Ilus. However, Bobbie makes some shocking discoveries, Ashford is hot on the trail of Inaros, and Avasalara gets the results of the election.

Miller (Thomas Jane) is gone, but so is the protomolecule keeping them trapped here, and we immediately start to see improvements for the people on and around Ilus. We get a touching send-off for Miller as Holden eulogizes of the last remnants of protomolecule goo left on the ship.

We find Ashford (David Straitharn) looking for Inaros (Keon Alexander) and holding Arum Lee (Joe Roncetti), Martian officer, prisoner as he has previously been tied to selling military-grade supplies to Inaros. Strathairn has a commanding presence in the scenes revolving around the hunt, and some great writing and acting go into the moments where Ashford tries to persuade fellow Belters of his new less violent philosophy.

Bobbie (Frankie Adams), still suspicions of the next job, is on the trail of Beltran (Tim Campbell), who turns out to be a serving sergeant of the logistics division. She later makes a disturbing discovery about what is being moved and soon also finds Beltran dead himself. What follows is a very satisfying and enjoyable action long shot, as Bobbie tries to get to the package in time. However, despite Bobbie being a one-man fighting machine, she is unsuccessful and the Mars ship, along with its stolen cargo, gets away. It is pointed out that the only way the ship would’ve been able to get away from Mars is with codes from someone very high up in the Military, deepening the foreboding feeling.

Avasalara (Shohreh Aghdashloo) has lost the election, and she and Arjun (Michael Benyaer) part on uncertain and emotional terms as she leaves to hand over the government at the Luna base. Bobbie reaches out to Avasalara as she leaves her office one last time, citing that there is something terrible going on at the heart of the Martian Military and requesting help, with Avaslara voicing what we’re all thinking, that Bobbie’s timing sucks.

With most of the threads of the last season tied up, and a few left open for the next season, we end with Ashford catching up to Inaros and launching an infiltration of his ship in the hope of stopping whatever his plan is. We watch an asteroid starts to get covered in stealth technology, as Ashford’s experience of fighting in zero-g space is demonstrated in another excellent action sequence. Alas, while successful to a point, Ashford is ultimately outflanked as Inaros son (and that of Naomi’s), Felip (Jasi Owens), is revealed. Inaros is now the one on top, as Ashford is placed bellow in the airlock, and after a chilling speech excellently given by Alexander, Ashford is spaced. Ashford’s death is moving, as he sings with his last breath, and we say goodbye to a great character of the last two seasons.

Verdict: The resolutions of many plot points, and the tying together of, until now, seemingly disparate plots, such as that of Bobbie’s and Ashford’s, this finale is action-packed and satisfying while leaving plenty of space for another season to continue the story. 9/10
