Titan Comics, out now

Number Six (the agent formerly known as Breen) has successfully survived the attempts of the Village to break him and now confronts a familiar Number Two in the form of his erstwhile colleague and lover.

Wow, those four issues just blew by in a blast, and what a blast they were. This four-part series has done a great job in carrying across the iconic tropes of the original series while also injecting some contemporary perspectives on tech, liberty and resistance.

I won’t delve into plot details, as you may be wishing to save yourself for the collected edition, which is due for release October 2018. The fact that it has a number 1 on the spine tantalisingly suggests that this is not the end of the story, and indeed it’s written in such a way that further adventures can easily follow, whether with these characters or just within the confines of the Village. The ending as it stands… let’s just say that unlike the response to original series finale Fall Out it’s unlikely that the Titan switchboard will be jammed with complaints or that writer Peter Milligan will be attacked in the street.

Verdict: A long overdue and authentic return to The Prisoner universe that fuses the iconic with the new in a vibrant, breathless, twisting and turning narrative that once established carries itself forward with a great momentum. Be seeing you? Hopefully it will be again, and soon. 9/10
