The band, however reluctantly, are back together. Deathstroke meets up with Doctor Light. Faddei and Kory have a moment.

The plot thickens as Rose reveals she’s in town to kill her father for murdering her brother. This by itself would be bad news. But the way that Dick carefully manages the release of information would make his mentor very proud, and not in a good way. Brenton Thwaites was required to carry a lot of the shoddier elements of season 1’s writing on his back and it’s nice to see his reward in season 2 is to get lots of fun, chewy things to do. While his actions here are going to endear him to no one, Dick is at least being both cautious and consistent, two words I’m only moderately certain his successor could spell.

The rest of the episode is an interesting combination of a nicely chunky fight scene with Doctor Light, some more Titans alumni bickering and two surprises. The first comes in the almost contemptuous way Jason finds, and basically dismantles, Doctor Light. Physical action is always a fun way to show character and if Dick is a still, peaceful master than Jason is a flamboyantly brutal, erratic student. That goes very well for him here, and terribly too.

The second surprises is the way we get a massive chunk of Kory’s backstory which is laid out in a far sweeter manner than you’d imagine. Faddei, played with quiet charm by Robbie Jones, is immense fun and he and Kory have a natural chemistry I’d love to see explored further. Even if she does, kind of, abandon him here.

Verdict: Rounded off with a nice call to arms for the reluctant family, this is another strong episode for the most improved DCU show out there. 8/10
