While the planet celebrates Harlan’s Day, Kovacs hatches an escape plan and Quell pieces together fragments of her life.

Tradition dictates that cultures celebrate the discovery of their homeland by their founder, and Harlan’s World is no exception. Except, most founder’s day celebrations don’t typically feature political prisoners being strapped to fireworks rockets and being propelled into the atmosphere. Danica Harlan is certainly her father’s daughter and is revealing a more brutal side to her than we’ve previously seen.

Following his escape from The Circle arena, there’s a huge bounty on Kovacs’ head and he in turn has worked our who Colonel Carrera previously was. We are teased a little more on how the planet was discovered and mined for its raw materials that are used in creating ‘stack’ hard drives.

Kovacs is trying to get out of the city with Quell, but she is on another murder spree, killing some of the planet’s founders. More significantly, isn’t that who we think it is at the end?

Verdict: The story continues to be driven by snatches of a bigger picture mystery, interspersed with gunfire and hand-to-hand combat. Even though it’s saddled with a lot of new tech to get your head round, it’s easy enough to follow, but doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything new in the well-ploughed cyberpunk field. 7/10
