As God wants to get to know his son better, people keep bursting into song.

This is one of those episodes that’s either going to annoy the hell out of you, or you’ll sit back and enjoy – I noted last time that the series seemed to have become a bit too serious, but this episode gets the balance nearer even. The first song – prompted by Ella saying Another One Bites the Dust – gets some terrific reactions from Tom Ellis, particularly when it becomes clear that nobody human is seeing anything different. The songs pepper the episode with some landing better than others and when we learn the reason for them, it makes sense within the context of the show – and as with Buffy’s Once More With Feeling, moves the main plot along.

The other plotline concerns Amenadiel and Linda dealing with the fact that their son is human – not something that is particularly pleasing to the angel, who’s firmly of the opinion that angels are better. Oh, and there’s a murder case as well but that almost feels incidental…

Verdict: Lucifer, the Musical – perhaps not too surprising when all involved thought this was the final season, and with enough other substance to make fast forwarding through the songs worth it if they’re not for you. 9/10
