A new method of mindfulness comes under UNIT scrutiny…

Roy Gill’s concluding story for this set pits Kate Stewart against a mysterious figure from her father’s past… Okay, it’s not that mysterious at all, given that an older Captain Chin Lee is front and centre on the box illustration, giving away that there’s going to be a connection to the Season 8 story The Mind of Evil, one of the tales from the “blood and thunder” days of UNIT, somewhere in the 1970s or 80s.

The story starts with what turns out to be a nightmare on Osgood’s part, as everyone seems to turn on her after she’s made a mistake. Given just how much Petronella has been off message during the past three stories – and particularly at the conclusion of Breach of Trust – it just feels a little off for this to be predicated around Kate’s total trust in her…

That aside, it’s an interesting story that makes you constantly question what is real and what is simply a creation in the mind of the focal character.

Verdict: A more intimate story to round off the set. 8/10
