The Capital is overrun by Yavalla, Gwynn and Tobin. Meanwhile, with Talon, Zed and Garrett off in pursuit, Janzo is left in charge of The Outpost, and makes a terrible mistake.

When Talon said that she wasn’t really a leader, she wasn’t kidding. She’s managed to be in charge of The Outpost during a deadly epidemic (and ouch for that one, Outpost writers room) before she decides that the absolute best use of her time is to take herself and two of the best warriors left in the place on a quest to The Capital and leave the place under the authority of Janzo.

Worse, when she and her travelling companions encounter some ex-Prime Order soldiers who are clearly bad people on the road, and those soldiers tell them they’re headed for the sanctuary of The Outpost, they let them go with a ‘hope Janzo isn’t stupid enough to let them in.’ No, heaven forfend…

Back at The Outpost, Janzo is struggling with his newfound authority. He and Wren have been unable as yet to find a proper way to get rid of the kinjes which doesn’t involve killing the host, and indeed when Talon and friends set off after Yavalla, it’s with a potent weapon designed to kill her and hopefully by extension all her kinjes (operating on the Independence Day/Phantom Menace/Avengers Assemble model of kill the leader and everything else conveniently stops.) Hope that doesn’t cause any relationship drama for Janzo when his girlfriend finds out.

In The Capital, The Three are down to One(ish), and Yavalla and friends have established almost total control, so it’s handy that Garrett knows the secret tunnels underneath the place so that they can get in. Unfortunately, it turns out that it’s pretty hard to sneak up on an enemy who can see through the eyes of almost anyone in the vicinity, and their task may be harder than they imagined.

But if they have problems, it’s nothing compared to Janzo, who of course lets in the Prime Order soldiers and then is confronted with an even bigger problem than their general boorishness and predilection for violence. Oh dear, indeed.

Between all the big stuff there’s smaller things as well. Zed is being particularly sulky because – as far as I can tell – he’s suddenly decided he fancies Talon again and can’t see what she sees in Garrett. So that’s a nomination for the lack of self-awareness awards for him then. Also, Janzo’s amazing patented kinj-detecting rat device has a flaw that somehow the self-professed super-genius didn’t foresee, even though it’s achingly obvious. Oh dear, oh dear…

Verdict: It’s honestly hard to watch characters – even in this show – making such wilfully bad decisions on such a regular basis. 4/10
