tbs-2-6The Mariana Trench gives up one of its secrets – one of Jeff Tracy’s craft…

There’s a great deal to love about this latest episode of Thunderbirds are Go which continues this year’s development of the visual look of the show, with the introduction of the TV-21 (one of the nicer injokes of the season so far), and a number of new angles on the craft (including FAB 1, which gets its own launch sequence although Parker might want to drive with a little less use of the brakes!). There’s also the continued use of close-ups on the craft which emphasises their size and weight – before Thunderbird 4 meets its match. I’m starting to get a nasty feeling about the Mechanic’s identity, which I’m really hoping I’m wrong about…

The episode’s also got one of my favourite scores from Ben and Nick Foster – the underwater battle is suitably epic, and the launch music (which had a neat strings start for Thunderbird 3 last week) gets a reworking for the TV21 take off.

Verdict: Continuing a strong run of episodes. 8/10
