Wolgast and Amy are on the run from Project Noah’s operatives but the net is beginning to close in, wherever they turn.

The second episode of Fox’s new vampire epidemic drama hits the ground running with our protagonists being pursued by men in back in black SUVs but it soon eases off the throttle as they find some temporary respite. The characters are the heart and soul of the show, Amy showing great support for her adult saviour when he blacks out from a wound.

Meanwhile, back in the lab, an obnoxious guard is goading the Death Row patients who are in various stages of vampirism. He’s such a jerk that we’re counting down the minutes until he’s chomped down on. And in flashback we also get a little context as to why Henry Ian Cusick’s Dr Lear was able to convince Jamie McShane’s Dr Fanning to join him on the fateful expedition.

Verdict: As Wolgast makes a sacrifice to save Amy, things are looking bad for the fugitives as The Passage goes a little Stephen King’s Firestarter. With the numerous supporting characters starting to get screen time, the show’s tapestry is starting to build, and while it’s not essential viewing yet, there’s still good enough reason to return as mankind gets one step closer to its fall. 7/10
