Darius makes one last attempt to persuade Ben to leave…

The Darius/Ben relationship at long last comes to a head in this episode, with the two teenagers exchanging blows over each other’s pigheadedness with regards to leaving the island. Ben feels that he’s never been more comfortable with himself since he’s been there, while Darius still feels considerable guilt over letting Ben go from the monorail all those months before. Things are unexpectedly brought to a conclusion by Bumpy finding some others of its own species – who are able to protect it from an attack by the Scorpius rex that both the human boys know they’d be unable to do. Cue Darius and Ben following in the others’ footsteps as they head for the quay.

Meanwhile, Yaz has become a cheerleader to try to get everyone moving – and this change of character frightens them more than the thought of the Scorpius rex, and it’s only once she reverts to normal that they have a hope of avoiding being stampeded, or eaten…

There’s a Silence of the Lambs-esque set of cuts between the two groups of teenagers that is resolved when Ben and Darius arrive to find the others have gone. And worse, their problems with the Scorpius rex have doubled…

Verdict: It feels like we’re moving into the endgame – yet there’s still another three eps to go. 8/10
