Orcini and Bostock are hired for a delicate mission.

An extra from the Lytton line, this is a standalone story featuring the Knight and his Squire as introduced in Revelation of the Daleks. There are many who firmly believe that the part of this Colin Baker tale that Saward wanted to write is the strand with Orcini and Bostock, and the characters are clearly enough delineated in that 1985 tale, and the performances sufficiently strong, that they feel like an obvious choice for a comic (perhaps even more so than Mr Lytton himself).

Saward recreates the co-dependent relationship between the two men as they are put on the hunt for a missing book, assisted by a fun new character, Vera. Honour is at the forefront of all Orcini does, rectifying situations that need such remedies, Bostock following on loyally behind. In the art extras, Salmon recounts Saward’s description of Bostock, which just reinforces the feeling I’ve had for years that the pair are in the same mould as David Callan and Lonely.

Adrian Salmon’s art is as distinctive as ever, with the characters very recognisable as their screen portrayers, and it brings Saward’s script to life well. Making this a one-off feels the right move – there’s sufficient plot here (although probably enough for three Titan issues!) for the single shot, without it feeling overly rushed. There’s clearly plenty of scope for more adventures for the pair – and hopefully they’ll be coming down the line.

Verdict: A very enjoyable one-off adventure. 8/10
