Second Sight, out on demand now, on DVD August 3rd

When her grandfather dies, a young women inherits his house and moves in to fix it up. But strange things start to happen.

Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley’s (Malignant) 2018 thriller, written by Brian and shot in their own home, is a nuts and bolts horror that is perfectly adequate in execution but lacks any originality. With no disrespect to Blumhouse, it feels like one of their made-to-a-budget-and-fixed-storyline horror pics, but without the cast.

It doesn’t help that we don’t really warm to either Alisa (Trista Robinson) or her new age know-it-all friend Steph (Hannah Race). Black gloop bubbles out of the shower tray, a ball bounces on its own, a camera crawls around the house… it’s haunted house by numbers. And when finally we find out the big reveal, it’s just one of a couple of possibilities, and it’s nothing special.

Verdict: In a crowded marketplace, Echoes of Fear offers nothing to elevate itself. It’s not enough to just be competent – you’ll have forgotten it before the credits have ended. 5/10
