With the launch just days away, General Naird copes with an unprepared crew, Captain Ali searches for the perfect words, and Erin visits her mom.

It’s the press briefing for the launch of Space Force’s maiden voyage to the Moon, and so show they’re four years ahead of schedule. Doesn’t that suggest they’ve cut corners and are being reckless? We know the answer to that. And as the huge hangar doors slide apart and our crew do their slo-mo The Right Stuff march in their spacesuits, we enter the two-part season finale.

Naird asks Kelly out on a date, which should be fine provided he stops talking about his jailbird wife, but daughter Erin is not at all happy with what she sees as cheating on her mother. But the biggest problem to tackle is the proprietorial view being taken by the Chinese government, who already have a lunar base and don’t intend on letting Space Force land near the Sea of Tranquillity. Add to that the lack of candidate screening which had let a former arsonist on board and things are not great. But against all odds, they safely land, Ali gets to do some jumping on the Moon… and then a Chinese lunar buggy deliberately runs over the US flag planted by Apollo 11!

Verdict: We’re finally at the point where America has ‘boots on the Moon’, but the belligerent actions of the Chinese could lead to serious consequences. It’s a neat cliffhanger to lure you back for the finale. 8/10
