Liz gets more excited about the potential of her research, as the presence of Diego reminds her of her old life. Max and Kyle team up to further investigate the recent abductions. Michael goes off on his own to find out where Alex is, with some surprising answers.

At this point, it’s becoming genuinely hard for me to keep track of Manes siblings. Gregory just seemed to appear out of nowhere and now Flint (who I barely remember from season 1) is back on the scene and into all sorts of shady stuff that makes everything more complicated to stay with.

Still, there’s a lot of really good character work here as well as not a few twists along the way. Liz is daydreaming more and more about her old days in the lab when she was with Diego, his presence as a constant helping to stimulate this. I’m calling it now though – there’s something shifty going on with this apparent saviour figure. He seems a bit too interested in Liz’s ‘secret NDA-bound work’ than in anything else, and the one time someone asks him directly about Arturo’s likely fate, his answer doesn’t convince me. If this show has taught me anything so far, it’s that everyone has a secret. We just don’t know what Diego’s is yet.

Speaking of surprises, when Kyle gets a sudden shot of bad news, he ends up teaming up with Max as they try to dig a little deeper into exactly what the deal is with the recent abductions and who might be involved, after Diego’s tip on the drug that seems to have been administered. It’s actually quite fun to see the two of them trying to work alongside one another, while also a little painful as we watch Kyle try his best to navigate his way around keeping Liz’s secrets from Max.

And Michael is doing what Michael always does as he charges headlong into finding out where the suddenly absent Alex has got to in his own unique fashion. You probably would easily guess that he ends up in trouble, but I for one was caught completely unawares when it was revealed who’s involved in that trouble. Talk about out of left field.

Those secrets of Liz’s though? They can’t stay secret forever because she just isn’t that good a liar, setting up a conflict between her and Max that seems fairly lowkey right now, but which I get the impression may blow up later on.

As always though, it’s Isobel who steals the show for me. Lily Cowles has always had a lot of fun with her character and watching her as Isobel tries to become a better version of herself and seeing the interactions she has with people who used to hate her is really compelling stuff. More, please.

Verdict: Getting increasingly narratively tangled but delivering some truly shocking revelations and twists as well as some really amazing character work. Still loving it, even if I am a little confused. 8/10
