As they prepare to attend an exclusive event on the vampire social calendar, the vampires try to survive without Guillermo.

What a treat this second season of What We Do in the Shadows has been. Even funnier than the first year, the writers and cast are so familiar (that’s a vampire pun, ho ho!) with their characters that there’s not a single weak link. Each member of the ensemble has had a chance to shine, taking us deeper into their crazy back stories.

This season finale finds the vampire house in chaos, Guillermo having finally left them – and they can’t cope without him. But then the ultimate invitation is extended to them – tickets to the Theatre Des Vampires, a travelling circus from Europe that visits the US every five years. Boasting an all-vampire cast and full nudity, it’s the hottest ticket in town. It also happens to be a trap set by the Vampire Council, who plan to execute the housemates for crimes against vampires. I’ll say no more, except that next year (and Season 3 has been confirmed) will be a very different show.

Verdict: Easily the funniest first-run show on air, and that’s including non genre fare. A joy to watch – I can’t wait to see what these nutty nosferatu get up to next. 9/10
