Titan Comics, out now

Los Angeles 2029, and it’s up to Detective Ash to retire cult leader Yotun before he destroys both her and the city she loves.

Yotun has far outlived his inception date and is relying on the ‘gift’ of blood, transfused from his followers. Elsewhere in the city, Replicant hysteria is prevalent – people are seeing them on the streets – and Ash confronts Pekka in her search for Yotun. Detective Marlowe has been  following her at their sarge’s request, but Ash doesn’t want his backup, while noting that her hit rate is now under scrutiny. But most importantly, just what was in the vault raided by Yotun, and who really was the old lady that owned it?

We hit the final act of this Blade Runner sequel and everything is getting a bit clearer. Mike Johnson’s skill here is in not over-relying on the bells and whistles that define this universe, and in structuring the comics so that there’s a payoff in every issue.

Verdict: With some gorgeous visuals and a motion picture-quality plot, this is no Blade Runner Replicant – it’s the real deal. 9/10
