A story of the past provides insight into the present evil that stalks the Terminal Islanders and Chester returns home to his family, only to find that someone he was searching for is gone.

You want answers? You’ll get plenty in this superb instalment of The Terror: Infamy, boasting the sort of revelations that a less confident show would save for its finale. Indeed, with four more weeks to go, one has to wonder what’s in store.

This is Yuko’s origin story – something that has been teased since week one – and now we follow her entire story from her rejection on her wedding night, her trip to America and her transformation into a Yurei. This takes up the entire first half of the episode, with all dialogue in Japanese, and again only a well-established show would have the balls to do this. It’s a fascinating journey between realms, packed with beautiful and hideous moments.

When Chester returns to his family in the second half of the episode he’s disappointed to see that Luz has left, and he can’t ignore the fact that the demon has followed him back across the seas. But whatever secrets the preceding half-hour shared with us is nothing like the bombshell about to be dropped on the young man who feels like he’s lost everything. Nothing can be the same again now that the genie is figuratively out of the bottle – sparks will surely fly.

Verdict: In its early weeks, The Terror: Infamy felt like a pale successor to Season 1, focussing more on the inhumanity of the aggressors than the supernatural elements. This has flipped now, and while the humanity is still essential, the power of the ancient evil is at the fore. You’ll struggle to find a more compelling hour of fantasy TV this week possibly all season. 10/10
