When a true crime travel vlogger documents her stay at a hokey haunted Bed and Breakfast, she gets a much scarier experience than she was expecting. An exterminator is tasked with a big job, and it’s more than he bargained for.

Creepshow’s second episode of the new season continues to serve up some familiar genre faces and maintains the emphasis on fun. Dead and Breakfast is set in the murder house of an old spinster, now run by siblings (Ali Larter – Final Destination, C Thomas Howell – The Hitcher) who are struggling to get visitor bookings. Recognising the potential of positive coverage on social media, they court a young vlogger with a penchant for macabre homes.

The fun comes from second-guessing just how haunted the house actually is, and how much of the spectral activity is wishful thinking. The leads have a ball, Iman Benson is likably naive and self-centred as the social media star, and things escalate very quickly.

Pesticide follows a puffed-up exterminator (Josh McDermitt – The Walking Dead) who deludedly sees himself as the best man in the business. Having been invited to undertake some extreme activity by a wealthy client (a mysterious Keith David – The Thing) he finally develops a conscience, albeit a little late in the day. Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser) also has an important role to play, and it’s great to see her back on the screen in another genre role.

My only reservation with this episode is that it’s incredibly out there, and best advice is to sit back and roll with the punches. Don’t look for any great explanations or logic, just enjoy the exterminator’s taste of justice as the pests start fighting back.

Verdict: Another hour of high-concept comic book antics, the second story is certainly the weaker of the two, but it’s still a great ride. 8/10
