A final look at the challenging logistics of the most celebrated and successful sci-fi comedy ever, told by the cast and crew who made it happen.

Last week we learned the value of the live studio and how comedian Tony Hawks was the show’s warm-up man. In this final hour we focus on one of the show’s strongest elements – its science. No longer just ‘Porridge in space’, Red Dwarf had parked its pure sitcom status and offered credible, mind-stretching sci-fi variations on white holes, alternative universes and tech gone awry.

In this final victory lap we remember some of the show’s guest stars – Brian Cox, Jenny Agutter, Clare Grogan, Ainsley Harriott(!) – take a peep at the US pilot episode and its unlikely cast, Red Dwarf fandom, and why the show still has legs in it.

Verdict: What a fascinating three episodes this has been. Even the most die-hard fan will have found something new, and if nothing else, it’s a great opportunity to revisit some classic scenes. 8/10
