Alice and Zoe both discover more about the Peach legacy in Butcher’s Block, while Officer Vanczyk finds one of his prisoners dining on another.

While episode one of the third series of Channel Zero lingered on setting up the locale and key players of the horror serial, the gloves are now off as the narrative descends into weird and unsettling. A couple of particularly gruesome scenes involving cannibalism and brain surgery mark the show’s intention to go full-on extreme.

We get some more flashbacks on when the sister’s mother finally loses her mind, and a just a few more crumbs about the Peaches’ legacy. But while arguably the weirdest elements of part one were little red riding hooded Smart Mouth and the isolated stairway in the middle of the park, there’s a whole tableaux of Lynchian strangeness, ranging from the dinner table with the Peach clan, to the sharply-suited cattle prod-wielding meat eater.

Verdict: It feels early in the show’s run to be serving such charnel house horrors, which can only make you wary about what else is lined up. 8/10
