The vampires realise that if they are to take over Manhattan they’ll need to claim more streets, and begrudgingly seek an alliance with the undead king of Manhattan to expand their territory.

It’s been three weeks since The Baron arrived in New York, and he’s not going to be impressed that the vampires only have dominion over five houses. Desperate times demand desperate measures, and so the toothsome trio visit the nightclub run by Simon the Devious with the hope that they can share some of his patch. The comedy names of the vampires in the club are reason enough to watch this episode – Count Rapula, Big Vladimir, The Exsanguinator – and it’s apparent from the outset that their old enemy is only after Lazlo’s cursed hat (it really is cursed).

Guillermo gets a decent B-story this week as we find out that the life of a vampire’s familiar is more structured than you’d initially imagine – they meet up regularly and have a newsletter. His character is desperate to be transformed, seeking the love and affection of his master, Nandor, who refuses to turn him. There’s a hilarious scene where the latter takes Guillermo for a flights by means of an apology for his insensitive behaviour, and then accidentally drops him… oops!

Verdict: Beautifully observed comedy that takes any glamour out of being a vampire and revealing that modern life just isn’t easy for the undead. 8/10
