Sally turns to Daveboy after the horrific events at Foulkes’ dinner party. Lucius embarks on the rescue of the PWEs. Thomas returns home at last.

After the rather obvious heartstring tugging of the previous episode, it’s refreshing to see that Sandra isn’t about to just swoon into Alfie’s arms at the first whiff of a proposal, especially one delivered in that monotone desire to ‘do the right thing’. But it turns out there might be bigger (or certainly more immediate) things for Alfie to worry about than impending fatherhood.

Sally, having managed to somehow escape with her life from the dinner party from hell, runs to Daveboy for his help, and this presents one of the emotional cores of the episode as the two find one another all over again. Daveboy isn’t as thick as he likes to pretend, nor as rough, and Sally isn’t the ignorant privileged girl she might appear to be. These two really have a future together I reckon, assuming they both live long enough to see it…

Thomas returns home to a less than enthusiastic reception from Martha, who is angry not so much at what he did in Gotham as to what dangers he might have exposed their family to by doing it. That’s a fair point, but soon gets forgotten as a more immediate threat emerges – one wearing a familiar face which means that even Alfie might struggle to overcome this particular challenge.

Meanwhile over at Section 7, Lucius is doing his best to rescue the PWEs being held there. Unfortunately for him, what he witnesses there goes beyond mere exploitation of the men and women with whom he had already been working, although he does also get the chance to reconnect with a very welcome familiar face.

All these various little adventures play out, with their respective heroes and villains, and then the episode drops somewhat of a bombshell for its final act, as it reveals that central arc I’d been missing only last week. All I can say is, is it too little too late?

Verdict: A solid instalment of character development with some nice surprises. 8/10
