The Titans scramble to find Jason as Rose, Gar and Rachel discover more than they should.

The Titans’ damage is very much on display this week.as the Original Team struggle to deal with the awful stuff they did in 2014 and the newcomers try to work out they feel about that. This is some of the most emotionally smart writing the show has produced to date, especially in the older team members. There’s a real sense of grief and loss, and conflict, to them. I especially liked how Hank is clearly ready to take the worst option not because it’s easiest, but because he feels like he can deal with it. That’s clever stuff and it’s reflected throughout the episode.

But play of the episode, and the week, goes to Mama Grayson’s oldest boy. Not only does he heroically sacrifice himself in a way none of the team see coming, but he manages to do so in a way Deathstroke absolutely sees coming and doesn’t care about. That leads to arguably the best fight scene in the show to date. Dick and a surprise Kory take on Deathstroke as Jason tries to get out of an imminent plunge to certain death. Neither goes well.

There are issues of course. Anyone who’s met Grayson for more than five minutes knows he’s off to do something stupid and heroic but that’s just the price of admission. Get past it and you’ve got another strong episode in this incredibly improved show about heroes trying to be better and usually failing. Recommended. 8/10
