Science Museum, London to September

London’s Science Museum celebrates Star Trek’s anniversary with a trail of artefacts, scattered across its many galleries.

You can pick up a free Warp Trail guide when you arrive at the Science Museum and set off on a voyage to see legendary items from the Star Trek archives. Arguably, you could spend a day at the museum, taking in its treasures, but if you’re just there for Star Trek, you can see each item and visit the impressive merchandise shop within an hour.

In scenes reminiscent of Race Across the World, my fellow traveller and I dashed up and down stairwells and across mezzanines in our search for Spock… and other Starfleet dignitaries. The museum doesn’t want to make it too easy for you, only revealing what item is in each gallery, leaving you and your away team to track down where the items are, hidden under the wing of a plane, next to a cabin of curiosities or a jet engine.

And what treasures they are – from a model of the Enterprise from Strange New Wolds, to the Spore Canister from Discovery, Zefram Cochrane’s civvies, a selection of PADDs and communicators, medical tricorder, Data/B-4’s head, Michael Burnham’s EV suit, costumes of Picard, Pike and Scotty, and a bundle of Tribbles. As a final treat, get your photo taken in the Discovery command chair, while browsing the exclusive and well-priced anniversary merch.

Verdict: Whether you time this with a wider visit of the museum, or just want to complete this Starfleet scavenger hunt in a spare hour, 60 years if the franchise is something to celebrate, and there are some nice pieces to seek out. 8/10
