The Doctor, the Eleven, Liv and Helen arrive on a planet where the Ix are willing to help in the battle against the Ravenous…

It’s no surprise, given the cover for this disc and the cast mentioned that both Mark Bonnar and John Heffernan appear in this story, and there are some quite wonderful moments where both of them are vocalising the same past incarnation – all we need is Julia Mackenzie adding to the mix, and we’d have a mindbending listen. But that sort of conceit isn’t enough to satiate the appetite for this final story – and John Dorney provides plenty of strong plotting and characterisation to make this a powerful conclusion.

We’ve been told that the Time Lords fear the Ravenous and once again Paul McGann is given chances to show a frightened Doctor, who needs the intelligence and faith of his companions to come through certain situations. Nicola Walker and Hattie Morahan continue to create fellow travellers for the Doctor who are not simply adjuncts to the Time Lord, but will do what they believe to be right in situations – and the cliffhanger leading into the final set suggests that Liv might well have had the right idea all along with the Eleven…

Verdict: A strong conclusion to this set with great performances and production. 9/10
