On a very familiar world, Vila is separated from the others and meets an old friend…

One of the side effects of the suspension of the full cast audios from Big Finish, following the sad death of Paul Darrow, is that some of the plotlines that I guess could have run for some time need to be brought to a close. David Bryher’s penultimate tale in this set deals with one such strand – Zeera Vos, Vila’s former partner, who was involved in the heist that saw Vila captured and imprisoned…

Bryher tells a strong story, that moves the thread of the Quonar parasite forward with the rest of the crew, but the core moments are between Michael Keating and Rebecca Crankshaw, as Vila and Zeera are forced to work together and come to terms with their own individual and joint pasts. John Ainsworth directs this sympathetically, and Keating and Crankshaw invest a lot into the discussions. Things pan out perhaps as they inevitably have to – particularly in the Blake’s 7 universe, where a happy ending is something that just happens in a story book – but it’s a fitting capstone to this part of the saga.

Verdict: A bittersweet reunion for Vila. 9/10
