Captain Pike – mutineer…

By some considerable distance the shortest of the Short Treks to date, this vignette once again takes us to Christopher Pike’s Enterprise (with brief cameos by Ethan Peck’s Spock and Rebecca Romijn’s Number One). It packs a huge amount into its brief running time – not least a chance to see the re-envisioned engine room of the Constitution class ship, which no doubt will have people complaining that it doesn’t match the one we saw Scotty in during the original series!

Kalinda Vazquez’s script is ably directed by Sanji Senaka with Amrit Kaur doing a great job as the cadet put under pressure to keep Captain Pike from accessing any sort of communications. No matter what Anson Mount’s Pike throws at her, she’s not going to be put off – and the resolution is very effective.

There’s lots of shoutouts to other parts of Trek canon (including a ship created by David Mack!) alongside an effective score. And once again it leaves us wanting a Star Trek: The Early Adventures series…!

Verdict: Another highly enjoyable vignette from Pike’s Enterprise. 9/10
