The Virals are on the loose, our regulars are stuck in various locations while Project Noah is lockdown, and Amy is being accessed more regularly by Fanning. Is this the beginning of the end of the world as we know it?

After a flashback to Bolivia in 2015, right after patient zero Fanning had been infected by the ‘vampire’ disease, we come right up to date with the eleven feral creatures trying to make their way out of the complex. It’s a great scene because it shows the point where the whole chain of events could have been stopped. If he’d been killed, that would have been the end of it, but Lear did the most humane thing in trying to save his friend, and launched the apocalypse in the process.

Most of the episode features Amy, Wolgast and his ex-wife trying to get out of the building. Various switches have to be thrown and systems reset before they can get outside, but the Virals are getting closer, and in one spectacular scene they drop down through the ceiling. A hail of bullets slows them down a little but there’s no evidence of any mortality – they look indestructible. And as they get closer to the exit doors, various team members get attacked, thus thinning the herd in readiness for the season finale.

Verdict: A number of shock deaths sets up the series for its final hour, though I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two are just sleight-of-hand tricks. This situation has been a long time coming, and now it’s here it’s anyone’s guess as to what happens next. What’s clear is that the beasts are loose in the community and they have a lust for blood  8/10
