Maeve wakes up in Warworld, living the life of a British spy, but where are all the guests, and just how exactly is the park still running?

After the post-credits teaser at the end of episode 1 it was clear that Maeve was not where we expected her to be. Thandie Newton’s former saloon madame is the focus of the entire hour, and this is a refreshing change from last week’s future-focused escapade where we set up Dolores’ new reality.

As always, the location shooting is exotic and expensive-looking, Spain doubling up for both war-torn Italy and the futuristic home of new character Engerraund Serac (an imposing Vincent Cassel), the apparent owner of Delos. In between Maeve’s detective work we follow Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) as he sails back to the park and picks up an unlikely new buddy in the form of security guard/host Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth).

Oh, and this the point where the show truly jumps the… dragon? Game of Thrones creators D B Weiss and David Benioff are spotted as techs behind the scenes of what must be Westerosworld, complete with giant dragon. The HBO crossover you never thought you’d see!

Verdict: Another entertaining hour that keeps the attention and manages to stay on the right side of over-complicated. After Season 2, I never thought I’d be excited about a return to Delos again. How wrong I was. 9/10
