The Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara Wright are inside the TARDIS when it appears to be taken over by an outside force.

Demon Records’ 2024 Doctor Who Record Store Day release is the narrated TV soundtrack of 1964 two-parter The Edge Of Destruction in a new audio presentation with linking narration by Carole Ann Ford (as well as a bonus interview with her).

As most fans will presumably already have the DVD of this story, I assume that the main selling point is Demon’s characteristically-detailed disc and packaging. The vinyl picture disc shows the TARDIS’ ormolu clock on Side A, while Side B has a Zoetrope effect, depicting the craft as its travels across space and time. By viewing the spinning disc through a stroboscope app on your smartphone, the movement effect is impressive. Finally, the packaging itself is die-cut cardboard artwork.

Verdict: While the story itself is not the most dynamic audio adventure, the presentation is top notch. 8/10
