Everyone seems to be coming up with ways of ridding Earth of the Nekross…

At last, some real development for Annette Badland’s character in this first part, which takes the obvious Independence Day riff and gives it a WvA spin. Although for much of the episode, she’s the usual batty daft old witch (okay, wizard), certain developments allow a very different side to her to come to the fore – one we saw to a small extent in the pilot, but has been missing since.

Benny also has some bright ideas, and comes up with a plan that might be subject to the law of unintended consequences. Watch the episode carefully – clues are strewn through as to what’s going on that aren’t immediately obvious, but which come together in a good double-threat for the cliffhanger.

There are also some interesting developments on the Nekross ship as a result of the relationship between Lexi and Tom that was formed during the previous story.

Verdict: A fun Gareth Roberts script that sets up a moral dilemma for all the characters in the second part.  7/10
