SPOILERS. SERIOUSLY, LOTS OF THEM.

Mando takes Grogu to the Jedi Temple on Tython to summon his kind, but Imperial forces are in hot pursuit.

The title of Robert Rodriguez’ (From Dusk Till Dawn) first episode of the show really says it all, with matters taking a dark turn. It’s impossible to discuss without spoiling bug surprises, so here goes: Boba Fett is back. In Slave 1. In his armour. Just digest that for a moment (in a way that the Sarlac didn’t digest the bounty hunter after all).

You could probably hear the collective cries of joy as Star Wars fandom punched the air when Temuera Morrison (previously Jango Fett in Episode II, a providing a retrospective voiceover of Boba in adjusted Episode V) finally appeared in screen in the iconic helmet and jet pack. And even before that, we got to witness him taking out Stormtroopers with a Tusken Raider’s Gaffi Stick. As with the introduction of Ahsoka last week, Jon Favreau’s script makes sure the legacy character gets plenty of on-screen action, here joined by last season’s Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

For 33 minutes it packs so much in, and that’s before mentioning the Death Troopers and Grogu unleashing his Force power. It finishes like the conclusion of The Empire Strikes Back – everything has gone wrong, but there’s the excitement of bringing the team back together to perform a daring rescue mission.

Verdict: Best episode yet. This old fanboy hasn’t stopped grinning – ‘This IS the way’ to honour and recapture the Star Wars magic. 10/10
