The Trashcan Man makes his way to New Vegas, while Flagg and Abigail meet for the first time.

And so we finally meet firebug The Trashcan Man, a very troubled young man as essayed by Ezra Miller (Justice League) and just the sort of person for Flagg to send on his way to procure some missiles for him. And talking of high powered explosive devices, Harold and Nadine finally complete their plan to blow up the council at a vigil for Mother Abigail, though I would imagine that the body count is much lower than they’d have liked.

I can’t see how Nick Andros will survive the blast, and unfortunately he’s one of those characters that we only got to know fleetingly before getting lost in that huge cast list. The same for Judge Harris, a major character from the novel, who not only gets truncated screen time, she doesn’t get an on-screen death. Her trip to Vegas served no merit whatsoever, except to release the beast within Flagg, who finally loses it with his flunky and rips him to shreds.

The character that we’ve spent most time with is Harold, but he’s such a snivelling wretch that we just count down the minutes until his plans are discovered – which they are, by a shocked Frannie. With everything now blown open, and Tom Cullen making a run for it, the pace is certainly picking up.

Verdict: A significant turning point in the narrative as we prepare to hit the final act. As entertaining as the episodes have been, you can’t help feeling that you’ve spent the wrong amount of time with the wrong people. 7/10
