After the attack by a Ghost Walker in GCPD, Kovacs rushes Ortega towards hospital as she bleeds out in the back of their flying car.

After the shock ending of Episode 5, marking the halfway point in Netflix’s adaptation of Richard K. Morgan’s first Kovacs novel, this instalment hits the ground running. I don’t think for one moment that we thought this would be the end of the spiky detective, but the addition of a new robo-arm certainly came as a surprise and proved to be useful before the episode’s ending.

The ripples caused by Kovacs’ investigation and stubborn refusal to die are felt by the police department, who are more corrupt than initially feared, and various gangsters in the underworld. AI hotelier Poe gets a telling scene with Elliot’s murdered daughter, teaching her how to fight back, and Elliot himself comes back into the action again.

The scene with Bancroft’s son being exposed for his subterfuge is hard to process – he may have daddy issues, but the caste of Methuselahs are so privileged and ruthless that one is just waiting for them to cancel each other out. The episode’s set-piece is saved for a visit to the Fight Drome, with Kovacs and Ortega fighting some heavies before facing a true professional. But Ortega’s bionic arm has just been waiting to swing in to action.

Verdict: Another strong instalment, but just who is that hooded sword-wielding killer who takes out the bad guys? Whaaat?! 8/10
