Elle recalls the trauma that brought her to LA and Davis is told to drop her investigation.

A significant episode in this Blade Runner spinoff story that fills in a big blank in Elle’s memory. She remembers lying in the sun, having a black lotus tattooed onto her back and then in the next moment she’s in a wasteland.

Elle is with a group of other victims who have been herded up as prey to hunters in jeeps. The sport is unfair, as the hunters have rifles and are unable to be injured by their prey, but Elle leads a revolt by stealing one of their jeeps. Inevitably she’s captured but then something kicks in, giving her strength to overcome her limiter and wreak revenge on her aggressor. It’s tough watching the violence against women, even in this stylised form.

Back at LAPD HQ, Officer Davis has made good progress with her investigation, spotting that the nature of Bannister’s neck break could only realistically have been carried out by a replicant – though they have all been ‘retired ‘ by now. Her superior cuts her down, telling her to stop her snooping, and then we find out why…

Verdict: It’s a regular revenge plot, but the Blade Runner trappings keep the interest high and its a solid half hour of entertainment. 7/10
