Sheriff Hassan fields multiple missing persons reports as the town prepares itself for Good Friday. Sarah reveals the results of a troubling experiment.

Finally, Mike Flanagan’s new Netflix serial is delivering the goods, but I wonder how many people will have dropped off by now. Drug dealer Bowl and Riley are missing, the latter having been fed on by the ‘angel’. Father Paul is now holding mass at night because he cannot tolerate daylight; the sacrament he shares is angel blood, which is making people look and feel younger.

In a scene that mirrors his AA meetings with Paul, Riley now has to confess to his new addiction, a lust for blood. And when he takes Erin out in a boat we fear that he’s going to kill her. Instead, he confesses what has happened to  him, and allows himself to be burnt up by daylight. That’s a pretty brave move, killing your main protagonist two episodes before the end.

As Erin rows the boat of ashes back to shore, Ed and Annie awake to suicide notes from their son. Erin takes the lead, seeking support from doctor Sarah and Sheriff Hassan. While they are on her side, the town is now under the control of evil – Paul admits to his congregation that he’s Pruitt and encourages them to take their own lives so they can be reborn. The episode ends with the vampires breaking out of the church.

Verdict: This is a very different show to the one I endured in its early episodes. It’s now full-on horror, with an exciting final hour promised. 7/10
