eve-3-7Will is falling dangerously ill – but it seems as if only one person can save him…

Emma Reeves pens this important episode that picks up on the calamitous events of episode 6 and shows its consequences on the gang – from Lily, who reaches out to someone unexpected, to Will, whose system seems to be going into shutdown. Help from Mary Douglas would appear to be the only way forward – but is it time for Katherine to step up?

There are some strong character beats for all the cast; there’s a powerful scene between Rhona Croker’s Katherine and Eubha Akilade’s Lily, in particular, while the links between Jane Asher’s Mary and Poppy Lee Friar’s Eve become very clear. We learn a key fact that explains a lot about the way Mary feels towards Eve, and that revelation in itself is the catalyst for some great work from Asher and Friar.

It’s another episode in which the humour takes a back seat – there are a couple of times for Friar to give a fun reaction shot, and Asher gets the chance to do the “haywire” routine – which is how it should be. What KT did last episode isn’t glossed over, although it isn’t the main focus of the discussion; hopefully there’ll be more to come on that subject.

Verdict: A tense half hour. 8/10
