Titan Comics, out now

Los Angeles 2009 and Marcus discovers the identity of the mysterious Replicant who rescued him from the clutches of Ilora Stahl, while Cal and Effie set out to search Lydia Kine’s apartment.

After the set-up of the first two issues, we’re diving into the meat of the plot which follows two distinct threads. Blade Runner Cal is called out by Effie on what his focus should be, and that’s in visiting Lydia’s homes to find some clues. Meanwhile, Marcus has an unexpected reunion and is feeling betrayed because of the subterfuge he’s been subjected to.

But none of this would matter if we didn’t feel like we were in the authentic alternative future landscape of 2009 LA which artist Fernando Dagnino captures perfectly. He creates detailed frames of different vantage points, looking up and down from impossible angles, bathed in the muted colours and neon glow of the city.

Verdict: A perfect synthesis of text and art, it’s like someone made a Blade Runner movie that we didn’t know about and it’s just been released to the fans. 10/10
