June and Halvorson arrive at Sanctum, but will a reunion with her mother be everything that June hopes for? Harry and John team up to pursue June, if they can just get over their own personal differences, and Christine finally manages to persuade her boss that she isn’t mad.

Another instalment in which we get an awful lot of new revelations. Starting out quietly enough with a flashback to the first meeting of our two young lovers, it then takes us on a rollercoaster ride as we are shown the real truth behind a lot of what we’d taken for granted.

First off, there’s June arriving at Sanctum. There’s already a subtle edge that she doesn’t quite trust Halvorson, but it’s overridden by her desperation to be reunited with her mother. Halvorson isn’t keen on that reunion happening immediately, and certainly when it does, sparks fly in some quite unexpected ways. By the end of it, we not only understand more about why Elena left, but also a lot more about other characters as well, with some big surprises thrown in.

Harry and John meanwhile are in hot pursuit of June, teaming up out of necessity. There’s obvious tension on both sides – John feeling Harry led his daughter astray, Harry feeling aggrieved that John hadn’t been honest about exactly what had happened to his father before now. But the desire to protect June from whatever Halvorson may or may not be is strong enough to unite them in purpose, if not to make them actually like one another.

And back in the UK, Christine takes the message Harry left her and starts really joining the dots together, both for herself, and in ways that she can get her boss to be on board with. She’s still a fair way off knowing the full truth behind everything, but she does at least get to stop being ignored and/or written off as a crank.

As the episode races towards its climax, several things become clear, chief amongst them that Halvorson is not being honest with anyone. All we need to fill the final piece of this intricate puzzle is to find out exactly what it is that drives this mysterious psychiatrist to do what he does, and what his ultimate intentions are not just for June and Elena, but for all the residents of Sanctum. Whatever it is, an old face from the past is also going to be present for the final showdown, though where their loyalties lie in everything remains unclear.

Verdict: The perfect penultimate episode to this first season. There are shock reveals, action, tension, and a sense that things will really bubble over in the climax. 9/10
