The Mandalorian rejoins former allies on a mission to destroy an Imperial settlement.

In Carl Weathers’ (Greef Carga) directorial debut for this show he displays a fine understanding of action scenes, and particularly how to handle Stormtroopers and their craft in a series of back-to-back chases.

We’re back on Nevarro, last seen when Mando, Greef and Cara Dune faced off against Darth Gideon’s forces in the first season finale. Former soldier Dune (Gina Carano) makes a welcome return here, now marshal of the settlement, and sorts out a bunch of Aqualish (the same species as A New Hope’s Ponda Baba, AKA Walrus Man). They’re also joined by the Mythrol that Mando captured in the opening episode, here being useful at breaking in to an imperial base.

Of course, we all know how easy it is to break into an Imperial settlement, or to duck the lousy sharpshooting of Stormtroopers. There’s running down corridors, reactor cores, Stormtroopers crouching down by door opening – all the legacy stuff that the fans love, and that’s before they throw in the speeder bikes and TIE Fighters! And an underbelly shot of an Imperial craft flying overhead.

Verdict: Maybe not the episode that you were expecting after last week’s set-up, but still a great action romp that knows exactly what buttons to push to deliver maximum thrills. Fans of classic  Star Wars have not been looked after so well for years.  9/10
