Working for the mysterious Division on a dangerous assignment, The Doctor uncovers something insidious afoot.

Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor makes her first full-length comic book appearance in Titan’s ongoing Doctor Who series, having enjoyed a mini-adventure in their Free Comic Book Day issue.

Things start well with the Doctor on her TARDIS, dealing with a Weeping Angel, before being whisked away to a secret meeting with Division. The Gallifreyan High Council have enlisted her to prevent the destruction of Gallifrey, the first step of which is to eliminate a cult stronghold.

The Doctor is joined on this mission by Taslo, a wet-behind-the-ears companion who would appear to know more about what’s going on than first appears. The issue concludes with their arrival on a planet, and my main observation would be that this series is suffering from the same pacing issues that plagued previous issues in this run. There’s just not an awful lot happening so far, suggesting that the four parts will be more leisurely than I’d like. The story and artwork by series regulars Houser and Ingranata are fine, but this sort of story should be zinging, not dragging.

Verdict: Not exactly a missed opportunity, but for a format that has no budgetary constraints in terms of what can be shown, this takes its time to not do an awful lot. 6/10
